THE ELEPHANT IN THE ZOOM
As a creative nomad for ten years, I developed some good habits. I’m writing down some old and some new ones down to remember, and also for social accountability.
ROUTINE
I know you know this too. But, really, write one down, include sun and exercise, push to get it started, your body and work will thank you.
DOWN DOG YOGA
This has to be one of the best apps I've ever used. insanely customisable, clever and effective. Choose detailed audio instruction and you rarely even look at a screen. Can't afford it right now? Just reach out to them, they'll sort you out.
SLEEP HYGIENE
Just because you can work in your PJs in your bed, doesn't mean you should. Try dressing up for work, have work regular work hours. Use flux/nightshift/darkmode in the evenings.
FOCUSED WORK.
You can use apps like toggl track or top tracker to log and monitor your computer activity, either for billing clients or just for your own accountability. There’s also the classic "self control" desktop app.
WORKING IN SOCIAL?
There are browser plugins that kill news feed scrolls & scheduling apps that help isolate you from the noise.
ZOOMED OUT?
Do you really need to be on video? Perhaps a shared Google doc and a phone call would do. Try a drop-in audio private work room on clubhouse, discord or google meet.
PS. Don't worry when you have a blow out, it's all WIP.
